I want to share a personal experience that I had with the Lord a little over twelve years ago. I have shared it with a few friends over the years but have been hesitant to share it publicly until now. At the time, I did not believe that I was receiving some big prophetic word for the nation, but rather an answer to a question that I had asked in prayer.
Noise adds to chaos, but a clear sound resonates. Noise leaves us confused, but a clear sounds invites a response. As I have been praying and seeking the face of God, asking what pleases Him as it relates to what is happening in our culture, I have been drawn to the truth that God loves a clear sound. This has illuminated places in my own life where I recognize noise.
FOCUSING OUR LIVES TO FIT HIS PLEASURE (Part 2 of 9)
I was gathered with some friends in a house church in Detroit. We were heartbroken over the news reports coming in from Ferguson, MO. The death of an African American man at the hands of police had sparked days of unrest that only seemed to be getting worse with time.
I must admit that I have been a bit cynical about the cycle of spirituality that seems to accompany national elections in our country. As much as I support people praying for our nation, it saddens me that this type of collective effort seems to be reserved only for critical moments. It is not that we don’t need prayer in times like these; we do. But why aren’t our prayers as fervent during the other three years out of four?
Hear my heart: we are in desperate need of God to come and touch our land. In fact, God has convicted me of my cynicism and invited me to join in with what used to frustrate me. But you have to admit, the October Prayer Movement does seem to be a bit of a mess this year. The church is struggling to know where we fit with the political chaos that is the 2016 Presidential Elections. The divide between left and right seems to be exaggerated more than ever this time around, and never have I heard so many from within the church attach God’s Name and His cause to the broken systems that this world has to offer.
